Danny Trejo is a hero

I just watched the documentary on Danny. I knew I liked him from his roles, but now that I know more of his background I really like the dude. He turned his life around in the face of adversity. Very commendable.

I am the BIGGEST Beastie Boys Fan

So I just finished watching the Beastie Boys movie for a second time. The first time before reading the book and once after. My memories of them start when License to Ill came out. I'll always remember that day like it was yesterday...

I went to the mall with my buddie David Crane. I think I was about 12. My mom drove us to Stoneridge mall. We each picked up a copy. His mom gave him a bunch of Susan B. Anthony coins to pay with. My mom gave him regular money and took his Susan B. Anthony's.

From then on, the rest of my life would be spent going to record stores and searching for Beastie albums. I have them all, even stuff like "the in sounds from way out", "root down" and other obscurities. I bought Pauls Boutique the day it released with anticipation. And I LOVED it. All Beastie albums I love very much. My least favorite are the punk tunes but thats cuz I'm much more a rap guy.  Even when Best Buy became the only "record store" where I could find new Beastie albums, I would always search there. It was a huge part of my life looking for new Beastie music. I always called them the 'soundtrack to my life'. My friends can attest to the Beastie Boys being the soundtrack to my life, and parts of thiers. A different album for a different time in my life. Memories as far back as 12. I am now (almost) 50 years old.

What I love about them is they were fun. The lyrics were fun, all they ever did was have fun. I have that same commitment to fun. I relate to them. They grew up in my time and experienced the same culture and events that I did. They rapped but looked like me. Mind boggling for that time period.

I went to shows of theirs whenever  I could afford. I have many Beastie shirts from over the years. I have all the music videos and documentaries I could find about them.

I wish I had met them in L.A. when they were there. I was about their age and was there at that time too. As information wasn't as readily available as it is today, I did not have a chance to find them. But I could only imagine how my life would have been today had I caught up with them then. I would have taken any job they gave me. I wish I could hang out with them today. They still look like the same fun guys they always were, albeit without Adam.
